There is a new FIM North American Continental Motocross Championship

A new MX series is coming to the US and Canada this fall. The FIM, the international sanctioning body behind all kinds of racing, from street to dirt to desert, has announced the new North American Continental Championship, with race stops in the province of Ontario and the state of Pennsylvania.
Wait what? Why?
Good question. Here is the official explanation from the FIM:
Riders will be able to compete in both events in hopes of taking FIM North American Continental Championship honours. The intention of this championship is to give riders from Canada and the United States a unique opportunity to compete for championship honours, and with events in the United States and Canada, riders competing in both events have the ability to run abroad and home ground.
So was this something the runners were asking for? Uh, maybe. Or maybe it’s the FIM’s way of trying to get the Canadian Motorcyclist Association back in action, after the AMC essentially let its involvement in Canadian motorcycle racing dwindle for years. Officially, the organizers of the series say:
Championship classes will include Supermini, 250 A, Open A, 250 B, Open B, 250 A/B All Star, Open A/B All Star, Vet 30+, Senior 40+ and Women. Additional support lessons will be available at both events. The High Point event will use classes from the PAMX series that will race in conjunction with the event, and similarly MotoPark will offer support classes similar to the PAMX series.
So it doesn’t look like it’s aimed at elite Supercrossers.
There has been little buzz about the races so far except for the initial announcement. We know the dates for the first series of races which will take place on September 10 and 11 at the Moto Park in Chatsworth, Ontario. The second series of races will be held October 1-2 in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania.
