The acoustic coverage of Gangsta’s Paradise in Rider’s Republic is awful

Ubisoft’s Big New Extreme Sports Game Republic of the Horsemen is not out yet. But yesterday Ubisoft opened the beta to everyone. So I was able to jump in and experience some of its open-world multiplayer action ahead of its release later this year. I expected big jumps and cool tricks. Instead, I found a terrible cover of “Gangsta’s Paradise” that stopped my virtual avatar in their tracks.

Last night I was focused on my bike through the mountains of Republic of the Horsemen, still trying to figure out the controls and get a feel for how these virtual bikes work. I was so focused that I hardly noticed that a new song had started playing in the background. That was until part of my brain recognized the lyrics and caused me to lose control of my rider, crushing me as a result. I stood up and stood there in shock as I listened to an acoustic folk cover of Coolio’s 1995 classic “Gangsta’s Paradise”.

I was so stunned by the song that I just stood there for a bit …

Dear readers, let me tell you, I was amazed at what I heard. Until then the soundtrack of this game was what you would wait. Fast rock, EDM, and generic instrumental tracks. So this blanket took me totally by surprise. I have played most of the beta since hearing this song and haven’t heard it again. Maybe there is a lot of music in this game? Maybe I’m going crazy and it never happened? But you all hear it too, don’t you? So I don’t go crazy. It’s a thing. It was created and then put into this game for … some reason.

I contacted Ubisoft about this recovery and who made it because I cannot find this version online. I found other folk and acoustic covers of the song that were just as horrific, but not that particular disaster found in Republic of the Horsemen. Also, white people (especially white women who own acoustic guitars), please understand that no all song is to receive Mumford and Sons treatment. Please.

I’m giving Weird Al parody a pass because it’s so funny and slap in the face.

Republic rider The open beta ends on August 28. The full game will be released on October 28, 2021 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Will “Gangsta’s Paradise” be in the full version? I hope not!
