Stranger Things Creators Reportedly Working On Secret MCU Ghost Rider Project

In its 12-year history, the MCU has come a long way and continues to change as legendary characters are welcomed back into the fold. Marvel’s early financial struggles were widely documented, leading to many characters’ movie rights being sold to various studios. Slowly but surely, these characters are returning to Marvel.

Ghost Rider got a delightful revival in the form of Robbie Reyes, played by Gabriel Luna in the third season of Agents of SHIELD when the rights were returned to Marvel. With the Marvel Television version of Robbie Reyes no longer on the show, Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios are in charge of Ghost Rider’s fate. Its future lies in the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ghost Rider will join the fold sooner rather than later. According to reports, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is in talks to direct a Ghost Rider project with Matt and Ross Duffer, creators of Stranger Things. Although no official confirmation has been given, this appears to be a positive step forward.

Will there be a series or a movie for Ghost Rider?

When it comes to bringing the creators of Stranger Things to the MCU, the first question is whether a Ghost Rider project would be a movie or a series. Marvel Studios recently started bringing in lesser-known characters through Disney+, such as She-Hulk and Moon Knight. Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer already know the rituals of streaming series, so it’s likely that’s how Ghost Rider will be approached.

However, it’s likely that the creators of Stranger Things will use Ghost Rider as a necessary stage for feature films. The Duffer Brothers have only made one feature film (2015’s Hidden) in 2022; while they may find huge success in the world of streaming TV, it’s unclear if they want to make the leap to feature films. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is now the launching pad for some of the most important movies in history. So this could be a big step forward for the creators of Stranger Things.

Netflix and Marvel Studios are both in a period of change as they struggle to figure out how to climb to the top of the streaming platform hill. It’s understandable that Marvel would want a piece of the magic of Stranger Things, and Ghost Rider would be a great fit for the Duffer Brothers. With Ghost Rider almost making his first appearance for the MCU in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessonly time will tell when fans will get to see the character on the big (or small?) screen.
