Rider men’s golf heads to Oklahoma for NCAA regional play – Trentonian

LAWRENCEVILLE — The Rider University men’s golf team has learned to expect the unexpected this season.
The first came a MAAC Championship where Rider doubled up with team and medalist honors that advanced the Broncs to NCAA Division I Regionals.
More intrigue yesterday as Rider learned he would be heading to Oklahoma University No. 1 for a regional game.
A Golf Channel draft show opened with support from Oklahoma.
“We expected to wait a bit before knowing where we were going. I found that out early on,” Riders coach Jason Barry said.
“Excited. Very excited. I mean, if you’re going to play in the NCAA, you might as well play against the No. 1 team in the country.
The Jimmy Austin Golf Club at the University of Oklahoma became a host site after the University of Alabama pulled out due to unacceptable playing conditions at its Ol’ Colony Golf Club.
The regional, which will be played May 16-18, includes Oklahoma, Rider, Texas, Auburn, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Louisville, Missouri, San Diego State, Utah, Kent State, Kansas State and UT Martin.
The top four teams in six regional brackets qualify for the 2022 NCAA Championship played at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 27-June 1.
