Nicolas Cage Explains The Hilarious Reason Ghost Rider Role Made Him Never Want To Train Again

Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony almost launched its own Ghost Rider universe. Although the franchise only lasted two films, Nic Cage found himself playing the Spirit of Vengeance in both features. Now that he’s on the press circuit for TThe unbearable weight of massive talentthe star is repeatedly asked if he would reprise the role once again in a new era.
While the jury is still out on that one, the actor said in an interview that he refuses to train as hard as he did in the first ghost riderall for a fairly simple reason: no one thought he had become a superhero.
“They [Cage’s ab muscles] are real, and that’s why I’ll never train that hard again,” Cage said in an interview with QG. “Because nobody wanted to believe they were real and they wanted to believe it was CGI, which it wasn’t, so what’s the point?”
Earlier this month, Cage sidestepped the idea of returning, saying only that he greatly admires the comic world.
“These are hot topics, and I understand, because those are the types of things that become like wildfire on the internet,” Cage explained. “I’ve always admired the comic field and always thought the stories were really colorful and entertaining and, frankly, kind of wholesome in a really positive way. I don’t know what the shading is with the people who want to hit them. I certainly think there is great value in the fact that they bring happiness to people.
“You know, ghost rider was a movie that always should have been an R-rated movie. David Goyer had a brilliant script, which I wanted to do with David and for some reason they just wouldn’t let us do the movie,” he said. added in a separate interview “But this movie is a movie that should be made, not with me obviously, but it should be an R-rated movie, dead Pool was R-rated and it worked really well. ghost rider was designed to be a scary superhero with an R rating and an edge and they just couldn’t pull it off at the time.”
Cage can be seen in both ghost rider and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeancenow streaming on Hulu.
