Tom Marquand was in sparkling form to score a quadruple at Windsor
Tom Marquand proved to be the dominant force in Windsor by completing a 1,146-1 quadruple.
The 24-year-old’s stellar afternoon began successfully aboard favorite Proverb, which took the race and stayed well to win the Novice Stakes.
The next step was Bearaway, who held off favorite Wisper to triumph in the 1m2f handicap and end Hughie Morrison’s 30-day wait for a winner. When then successfully teamed up with William Haggas to take the mile handicap, Frantanck fending off a late push from My Mate Ted.
There was still a winner to come as Morrison and Marquand teamed up again with Promoting, who scored in the following run at 16-1.
“Tom Marquand is the strongest driver around,” Morrison said, elated to ease the frustrations of recent weeks.
“We kinda hit our heads against the wall because a lot of us like soft ground and don’t have our conditions,” he said. “No matter the level, it’s always nice to have winners.”
Ed Dunlop celebrated a poignant winner after Richard P Smith came home with a comfortable amateur jockeys handicap winner under Fletcher Yarham.
The three-year-old is named after the late Richard Smith, a friend of owner David Hicken.
Dunlop said: “Richard very sadly passed away from Covid in the middle of the pandemic and kindly David has named this horse after him. It’s a great story. Glad David is here today.”
