Deliveroo Singapore today unveiled new safety initiatives as part of its continued commitment to providing a safe working environment for its fleet of over 11,000 passengers. New initiatives include a three-month pilot program with Rider Dome, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based advanced driver assistance system (ARAS) that analyzes real-time data and detects potential threats on the road , and an expansion of the company’s ongoing program partnership with ComfortDelGro which includes the launch of a new advanced defensive riding course.

First food delivery platform to partner with Rider Dome, protect passengers with real-time alerts

To protect passengers on the road, Deliveroo will be the first food delivery platform in Singapore to roll out a three-month pilot program this month for a select number of passengers with Rider Dome, an AI-driven system which uses motorcycle-mounted front and rear cameras and proprietary algorithms to assess potential safety risks. The system comes with a processing unit that will trigger real-time alerts in the form of light and sound to drivers, when safety hazards such as road collisions are detected. This helps prevent accidents before they even happen.

Additionally, Rider Dome also comes with an app that monitors a rider’s ride on the motorcycle, provides analytics, and automatically calls emergency services in the event of an accident.

Improve safety awareness through defensive riding lessons

Deliveroo will free up nearly 600 new slots for its defensive riding course with Comfort DelGro Driving Centre. The additional slots are an extension of Deliveroo’s ongoing partnership with the transport company and aim to equip passengers with defensive driving techniques to improve their safety awareness and improve their survivability on the roads. Deliveroo first unveiled the partnership last October as part of its Rider Safety Month campaign which has been well received by Deliveroo passengers. The course achieved excellent satisfaction ratings (4.8 out of 5), with 98% of runners expressing interest in participating in similar activities in the future.

For riders who have completed the Defensive Riding course, Deliveroo and ComfortDelGro will be offering a new Advanced Defensive Riding course to all scooter riders. The four-hour course will cover theory and practical elements, including proper riding posture, motorcycle handling and balancing, and braking techniques. Both courses will be open to riders from April to the end of this year.

“Drivers are a fundamental pillar of our business and are at the heart of what we do. Their safety is of the utmost importance and we are constantly looking for ways to improve their daily driving conditions. Beyond a mandatory road safety orientation program for all new riders, we hope that our new Rider Dome rider, alongside enhanced defensive driving lessons with ComfortDelGro, will continue to pave the way for riders to hone their riding skills. road safety while keeping them safe on the roads,” said Jason Parke, Operations Manager, Deliveroo Singapore.

Since 2018, Deliveroo has focused on implementing safety initiatives, which include first-of-its-kind accident and injury insurance for passengers. This insurance protects every Deliveroo rider on the road completely free of charge and provides riders with injury security while maintaining the flexible working they enjoy.

To raise awareness about passenger safety on the road, Deliveroo named October as Passenger Safety Month last year, rolling out several safety initiatives including the launch of the safety app World Busby. With Busby, Deliveroo passengers will enjoy free premium access to information such as incident detection, dangerous hotspots, as well as alerting nearby passengers on RoadRadar drivers (such as truck drivers, trucks and cars) when Deliveroo passengers are nearby. Regardless of their vehicle type, all active Deliveroo passengers in Singapore can benefit from the app’s multi-layered security features. Deliveroo also rewarded runners for their safety knowledge during the month-long campaign, where runners were tested on their safety awareness through a fun quiz experience and won attractive prizes.
