Fall has fallen. What happened to spring ?
Sept. 13 , Saturday : Attended the Motorcycle Education Fundraiser and Expo at
Schoolcraft Community College. Doreene; from Garden City Post (ALR) had a
Table set up and was selling American Legion Riders clothing and accessories.
The ALR turn out was very LOW. I only met a few members from Garden City.
The displays, vendors and the thrill riders were great. They had an elapsed time course
laid out for bikes, so you could see how fast you could ride through the pylons.
They had some guys on those miniature bikes and they were flying. I hope this will
become an annual event.
Sept. 14 , Sunday : Got a call from Bob Lord and we met at the Dearborn Police
Station for the Annual Toy's For Tots ride to Hell. Once again; ran into Doreene;
there were about 8 bikes from Garden City, Bob and myself. The event gets bigger
every year. Last year, we rode in the rain; this year, the rain held off until we got to
Hell. I'm beginning to see a pattern here. There were over 3,000 bikes, pretty good
turn out. On the way back home, it rain so hard I could barely see the road. I'm sure
that some of you have also experienced the joy of sitting in a puddle of water, with
a wet wedgie.
Sept. 20 , Saturday : One of the staging locations, in the state for the Michigan
Remembers Run, was the American Legion Garden City Post. We were to
gather and leave the post at 11:00 am, to be in Lansing before the 1:30 pm
ceremonies. At about 10:30 am, there were 6 riders from the Rolling Thunder,
2 riders from the Forgotten Eagles and 1 rider (ME) from the American Legion Riders.
I was really disappointed by the low participation. The state of Michigan Remembers
but NOT the American Legion Riders. We made a gas stop at Exit 133 ( Howell ).
The Holt Post was at the ceremony; so people were able to see some ALR members.
Sept. 27 , Saturday : The Dearborn Heights Post held a Pig Roast and the food
was fantastic. They piled on the pork, corn and baked beans. A Harley Davidson
2003 Sportster was raffled, and I didn't win. We had a number of members from
the Garden City ALR Post, Downriver ALR Post, Forbidden Wheels, Motown HOG
Chapter, Motor City HOG Chapter, Jokers and Knights Of The Road, were a few
organizations that participated. The band was pretty good; with the first set
Rhythm and Blues, and the next set was Motown. When they started doing Motown
hits , you could not get on the dance floor. Good food, good friends, good music.
What else can you ask for ? It did rain in the evening and I got wet again. I hope this
will become an annual event. It was a lot of fun.
