Can't believe the Holiday Season is just around the corner. This year the
American Legion Riders is sponsoring the Annual Santaland Parade in Garden
City. This parade has been a tradition in Garden City for about the past
40 years.. The parade was in danger of being cancelled this year. The
American Legion Riders decided to put the parade on so that this long
standing tradition would not fall by the wayside. At the time of
this writing the parade is in it's final planning stages. A big THANK YOU
to the parade committee for all the work they have put in to this
parade. Also a big THANK YOU to the Post for sponsoring the live Reindeer
that will accompany Santa's sleigh. For any questions about the parade
contact committe chairman Diane Kaledas.
Also on that same Thanksgiving weekend the American Legion Riders will be
assisting the Garden City Goodfellows by adopting a corner to sell
Goodfellow papers so that "No Child Goes without a Christmas". If you are
willing to help please contact "Gentleman" Dave Spiteri.
Many thanks to all the Riders who showed up for the "Mayors COmmittee for
Underpriveleged Children" annual benefit dinner dance. The American Legion
Riders were well represented and was the single largest group to be in
attendance. This helped to raise a lot of money for this committee at this
special time of year.
Our annual "Cookie bakeoff" is set for Thursday Dec 19th at St. Dunstans
Church. This is where the guys get together and bake cookies which are
then boxed and distributed to Local Fire and Police Departments, for those
that need to "Protect and Serve" during the Christmas Holiday. See Al
Spiteri (Porky) for details at the next meeting.
As we have done in the past several years, the American Legion Riders will
provide Thanksgiving Dinner, at the Post, for any post member who is
unable to be with their families on Thanksgiving.
Again this year we are working with the Marine Corp Reserves in the "Toys
for Tots" Program. Anyone wishing to donate can bring a new unwrapped toy
to our next meeting.
I also want to mention that the American Legion National emblem sales has
now started selling American Legion Rider Hats, Pins, and T-Shirts. They
can be ordered through the catalog, by phone, or by e-mail. I will try to
have a copy of the catalog at the next meeting.
Our ALR Christmas party is planned for the 14th of December 7:00 P.M. at
the Post. This is a "Bring a dish to pass" type party. Hope to see all of
you there to have a good time and just enjoy the night with friends.
I would like to thank everyone for making this past year so successful for
the Legion Riders. A special thank you to all the officers and committee
members who worked hard to carry out and promote the functions and events
of this past year. Please make a special effort to attend our
meetings. Even with all the advanced communication technology the meeting
are still the best place to communicate and be involved with the group.
Our next Riders meeting is on Thursday Dec. 5th at 7:00 P.M. at the
Post.
Have a safe and Happy Holiday!!!
